The Oblivion Remastered release uses Unreal Engine 5 to render visuals while retaining the original Gamebryo engine for gameplay, offering a modern look without altering the core mechanics. This dual-engine approach suggests a growing trend in game remasters, allowing developers to preserve legacy systems while updating graphics cost-effectively.
Unreal Engine 5.6 introduces a redesigned viewport toolbar along with smarter snapping features to improve the editing workflow. Epic is also revamping project templates by adding "template variants," allowing users to choose between simpler or feature-rich versions to better suit their development needs.

A recent UEFN survey revealed Epic may replace Blueprints in Unreal Engine 6 with a new visual programming tool called "Visual Verse," which could either resemble node-based Blueprints or a blocky Scratch-like interface. Concerns have been raised that choosing a Scratch-style system could harm Unreal's development ecosystem by removing the proven, production-ready Blueprint workflow.
This week’s news highlights Marvel Rivals’ success as a top multiplayer game built in Unreal Engine 5, showcasing features like Lumen and Chaos physics, along with a developer interview detailing its creation. Also featured is a stunning 3D reimagining of Super Mario World in UE5, and Epic’s major progress in eliminating shader stutter with PSO Caches in Unreal Engine 5.5.
